A nine-year-old Nigerian child on a laptop managed to create 30 games for a smartphone. And he’s not going to stop there

It is generally accepted that Nigeria is a third world country, but this is not so. Many years have passed since the Nigerians lived in a backward world. Now they are also versed in technology and create new products in the computer industry. 9-year-old Basil Okpara Jr. is a direct confirmation of this.

Basil looks no different from other boys of his age: he spends all his free time at a computer or with a phone in his hands. However, the boy not only plays, but also creates games for smartphones.

Early childhood boy

When Basil was not yet 4 years old, he secretly took his parents' phones and played with the toys installed there. It was very difficult to pick up the smartphone from the boy: he cried and asked to give him at least a minute to finish the game.

On his 4th birthday, the father gave the boy a tablet, and now he spent days playing games for young children. Father jokingly said that it would be better if he didn’t play, but he invented computer games, because only a child knows what is interesting to another child. This idea so firmly stuck in Basil's head that he began to ask dad to find training courses for children for him.

Studying in a specialized camp

In March of this year, his father sent Basil to a special camp for children from 5 to 15 years old, where boys and girls from all over Nigeria were taught programming for 5 days on a special online platform, coding, robotics and working with virtual reality.

Over the past few months, the boy has created more than 30 toys for mobile phones, however, they are not available to everyone, but only to those users who are registered on the training platform.

Already this year, one of the games created by Basil will be available for download on Google Market. This will be a frog game that needs to be helped to walk through the rainforest.

In the meantime, the game is about to be released, the boy is working on another toy: the user needs to catch the bat when she gets out of her hiding place.

Success Nigerian Children

Basil is not the only Nigerian child who has succeeded in making programming and creating computer games simpler.

Recently, two 12-year-old boys were awarded codes for programming robots. Thanks to these codes, part of the homework can be transferred to the shoulders of the bots.

A team of girls from Ghana this year won the international robotics competition by teaching robots how to assemble boxes.

The government of the country in every possible way encourages the first successes of schoolchildren and gives them grants for further education.
