The secret of happiness from Warren Buffett: "Communicate and work with those with whom you are comfortable and comfortable. Otherwise, there will be no success in business!"

Most people have a long list of things that they would do differently if they had a second chance. One of the most popular American billionaires Warren Buffett is not one of them. In his opinion, it is better not to rely on chance, but to work with what you can influence yourself.

If you live life anew

In a 1998 lecture that he gave at the University of Florida School of Business, an MBA student asked Buffett: “What would you do to be happier if you could live life again?”

“My idea will probably sound strange,” Berkshire Hathaway CEO said, “but the only thing that needs to be done is to choose people with the longevity gene to increase the lifespan to 120”.

Buffett's answer, at first glance, may seem simple. However, at the same time, his personal philosophy of happiness has very little to do with longevity.

In fact, if he had been given the opportunity to return and live his life “over and over”, he probably would not have taken this chance.

The best time is now

To illustrate his position, the expert cited the following example, in my opinion, very revealing.

Imagine you have a box that contains about 5.8 billion balls. Each ball is a random and important event (for example, your place of birth, IQ level, gender, ethnicity, skills, parents) in your life.

If you could change one ball, put it back in the box, mix, then pull out 100 balls at random and choose a new one from them. Do you think you will be happy with the result?

In addition to the fact that you do not know which ball you will draw, you are absolutely not immune to the fact that the situation will become much worse. It turns out that the chance to find a combination better than now is negligible.

Do you still want to take a chance and take a second chance at a new life? It’s much more useful to realize that right now you are in the 1% of the happiest people in the world. Think about how lucky you are.

None of us can live life anew, but you can increase the degree of happiness by changing careers, goals, finances, health and relationships.

Warren Buffett's tip: "Be close to people you like. Don't work in jobs that you don't like. Do what you love. That's the key to personal success."
