Primary requirements

Sink in the kitchen, like the stove - is not only an important component of the interior, but also one of the most necessary things. Therefore, it should be convenient and practical in all respects and have the following qualities:

  1. spaciousness;
  2. resistance to high temperatures;
  3. resistance to detergents, including chlorine;
  4. easy handling (easy to put in order, difficult to damage).

In addition, a good shell should have anti-shock protection and for a long time keep a neat and presentable appearance.

Advantages and disadvantages

Installing a small kitchen sink is relevant in several cases:

  1. small family (no more than three people);
  2. a small kitchen with a narrow suite, where there is no possibility to install a sink more than 40 cm wide;
  3. the presence of a dishwasher when the sink is needed only for washing products.

The disadvantages of this solution can, first of all, include a small capacity. Especially in a small car wash it is inconvenient to wash high pots and large pans. This problem can be solved by depth, or, if the configuration of the headset allows, by installing it in the corner.

Types of materials

Every day the kitchen sink contacts with a variety of substances - water, edible fat, detergents, dirt and much more. Therefore, they are made only of durable, wear-resistant materials. Best suited for this purpose:

  1. stainless steel;
  2. ceramics (porcelain);
  3. composite stone (shells based on acrylic or stone powder);
  4. enameled cast iron;
  5. glass, wood, bronze, copper (used to create designer products).

The most common and cheap material is stainless steel. Products from it are easy to maintain, durable, they can not be broken. Small ceramic sinks have a neat and pleasant appearance.

Pig-iron shells, as a rule, are large in size, look beautiful, but very heavy, and require a special approach to installation. Design products, in addition to the appearance, in terms of functionality are no different from ordinary ones, but often require special care.

Configurations

Currently, manufacturers offer a huge range of sinks of various configurations, of any type of installation and of any kitchen. The most common forms are:

  1. round;
  2. triangular with rounded edges;
  3. square;
  4. rectangular;
  5. irregular shape.

All products differ in diameter, and are often additionally equipped with dryers, which are located in the same plane with the table top. As a rule, the surface of the dryer has a slight slope (2-3 degrees), which ensures the flow of water into the sink.

In addition, there are double sinks. Their shells can be both the same size and significantly different.

Corner sinks are products of non-standard configuration. Their shape is most often trapezoidal, but the cup itself is round. They are convenient for installation in the corner cabinet of the headset, but it is necessary to carefully examine and compare all the dimensions in order to make the right choice.

Types of installation

There are several installation methods:

  1. Consignment, when the sink is mounted instead of the table top cabinets kitchen. It is considered the most convenient, because it does not require additional work, and with full compliance with the size of the sink and cabinets,not even need fixing tools;
  2. Mortise, when in the tabletop cut a hole in the shape of a bowl. It is important to install such a sink when, for a small working area, it is not advisable to occupy a whole tabletop;
  3. Flush with the edge of the tabletop. Most often, this method is chosen for the installation of sinks made of artificial stone;
  4. From the bottom of the table top. In this embodiment, the sink and tabletop constitute a unit. This is especially true for sinks of composite materials.

Possible sizes and non-standard options

  1. One of the main criteria of even a small car wash is its capacity. Therefore, the minimum dimensions for square sinks are 40x40 cm and 45x45 cm. At the same time, the base for washing should be at least 45 cm in the first case, and not less than 50 cm in the second.
  2. Rectangular shells produce a variety of different sizes - 30x40 cm, 40x50, 45x50 cm, 40x60 cm, 45x60 cm. Sometimes there are non-standard models, for example, with a length of 48 cm and a width of 19 cm.
  3. Products with a round bowl usually have a diametral size from 45 to 51 cm. This configuration differs in capacity due to the absence of corners, but in them, as a rule, there are no additional sections.
  4. The depth of washing can be from 15 cm and, in some cases, up to 80 cm. But such models are not very convenient, as you have to bend over when washing dishes. The optimum sink depth is 20 cm.

Design options

Due to the variety of forms and materials, it is not possible to choose a sink that is optimally suitable for any interior.

Laconic and strict stainless steel products will perfectly fit in the kitchen in the style of minimalism, loft or high-tech. White ceramic or gray porcelain tiles will find their place in the interior in the style of country or Provence. Also for these interiors are perfectly suitable round or oval shells, covered with colored enamel.

There are many designer sinks, for example, enameled inside with ornaments, or carved in stone in the shape of a clam shell. There are mortise models of various irregular shapes - elongated, wavy, cruciform, communicating triangles. There are kitchen sinks in the shape of a guitar and shapeless blots. But often such products functionality is much inferior to the appearance.
